Frankfurt is celebrating it being the World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026.
Our community is participating by bringing
our own flair to these celebrations through our community evens this year.

We had another cosy and enriching event last week living up to our spirit of intersections at beautiful venue: d-i-s-p-l-a-y (a big thanks to NODE Forum for Digital Arts for supporting us).

T
he evening brought alive the intersection of disciplines, cultures and ways of seeing and doing.

Pertti Pitsinki (Pepe) flew in from Helsinki specially to be with us in Frankfurt to share his well researched (and practically applied) Field Guide on the topic of "Business Journey Mapping for Problem Finding"

Pepe and Tuomo Ketola have co-authored this well tested, holistic, multi-perspective and unique framework and a set of tools to Problem Finding.

Despite multiple design related events happening in Frankfurt on same evening we had a curious bunch from our community who came together.

Here are some quotes from Pepe’s talk that capture the essence of his talk (partially):

“Ask yourself .. . What is the better problem to solve”

“. . . you always make a choice of what you leave out and what you bring into focus”

“What you see is what you get . . .”
“. . . what you see is what you get SOLVED”

“There is a missing middle between strategy and execution in organisations . . .”
“. . . and there is no ready made place in the organisations for where this missing middle can be addressed”

“. . . (the irony is that) people are not sitting in the same room, looking at same picture, talking about same things”

“Are we starting projects to create a solution or are we starting a project to solve a problem”

“We need to make space for pauses . . .”

“. . . and create opportunities to slow down our thinking, looking and talking”

Keep a lookout for our next one .... sometime soon :)

Thanks to our partner community, MetaSkills - A Global Future Skills Community for supporting the event

Co-author of Business Journey MappingField Guide joins us from Helsinki, Finland, to share his unique and holistic approach to business problem framing.

TALK TOPIC
What’s The Problem? A holistic approach to problem framing - Learn how to use ‘Business Journey Mapping’ & ‘4+1 Lenses’ to find the right problems to solve.

Preview of Business Journey Mapping Field Guide. Business Journey Mapping is a collaborative framework and a set of tools that enables to identify and frame the right problems to solve.
Great insights and good intentions aren't enough. When people stop seeing together, they stop moving together. And the customer pays the price.

All customer problems are business problems. And all business problems will eventually become customer problems. Yet in most organisations, the people who see the customer and the people who make the key decisions are looking at different pictures - and no one is accountable for what no one can see.

Through real cases and two practical tools — the Business Journey Map and 4+1 Lenses - this talk shows how cross-functional teams can build one shared view of the whole.

Not to agree on everything, but to see the same system, make trade-offs explicit, and stop optimising in isolation.
